The locked door (narrative; final)
When Lucía left home, holding Horacio’s keys in her hands, since she didn’t remember where she had placed hers, Horacio was tidying things up in their wardrobe. He went to the kitchen to brew a mate and hollered her name, to ask where the kettle was. As he couldn’t find her, Horacio searched for her in the bedroom, in the living room and in the powder room. It was only then that he realized: she had done it again.
He didn’t feel angry; he did feel as if someone were playing (ironically playing) with him. It was the sixth time that happened: Lucía loses her keys, grabs his and disappears. Horacio is a clever man, though: he realises that being mad won’t solve the matter. All he can do is rest on his arm chair, wait and sip his mate (he found the kettle, which is a consolation).
Some time later, when Horacio is absent minded, only paying attention to the usual noise that is always heard at the end of a mate, someone knocks on the door. It is Lucía. She says she has lost the keys (his keys!) and now she can’t enter home:
- “Oh, good! Now we are both locked, Lucía! I’m locked in, you are locked out!”
Lucía laughs, but Horacio is frowning.
